This Classic Cruiser with Lots of space, and is unlike any I've been in before as far as comfort. This Morgan has always sailed in Freshwater From Lake Eerie to Lake o' the Pines. She was my home sweet home in college and to blame for a couple of missed classes due to fair winds (How could I say no to that?) She's got class for sure, but there is something you should know: She was refurbished in 2008, then subsequently (and sadly) I got a call from the yacht club letting me know she looked a bit low in the water. By the time I got there with a water pump she sank up to her nose. She was down for around 30hrs. After getting her up we found that it was not due to anything serious. While I was cleaning her, I guess i worked the hose worked loose from the through hull under the galley sink be getting the wash bucket in and out of lower cabinet. Once the hose was re-attached -and tightened- she was good to go again.
Floated her over to a local boat ramp and hauled out to be cleaned on to her trailer (*Which by the way is a 3-axle beauty with aluminum rims and load D tires on all six wheels and an electric braking system complete with emergency breakaway engage which was custom built for this boat for $7500*), She got thoroughly Power-washed, cleaned out and given an overall clean bill of health, although her Main is still tethered to the boom and worked fine on our last cruise, sails should be considered non-existent so plan for around $2500 for a complete set at a dallas sail loft, or check out ebay for some used ones.
As far as cosmetics: all outside teak could use refinishing; the new cushions are made from antibacterial foam and were dried out, and really, in good shape. the front cabin could use new wall coverings, i'll even help to get her in shape and send her off smiling... If my wife says its okay.
Some of her better qualities: She has Navigation station for chart plotting, an icebox built into the galley cabinet for your cold ones, new stainless steel 2 burner gimbal-mounted alcohol stove, stow-able propane grill mounted to the stations above deck, hand-pump freshwater sinks in the galley and bathroom, nice Jabsco head with option of storing or evacuating your waste into the ocean (no lake flushing please). She has shore power, 110 outlets, and all lights and wiring checked/and or replaced.
The Out Island 28 was designed to provide maximum accommodations and handling ease for cruising and is a much sought after design for Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. It's shoal draft and low mast open up vast areas off limits to most sailboats. Yet, the 3200 lbs of ballast, wide beam and low mast combine to provide excellent stability in all wind conditions. The accommodations below rival that of much larger boats. Head room is 6' 2", there is housing, sleeping and eating room for 6 adults.
All construction is factory hand-laid fiberglass -SOLID BOAT. The fiberglass is in great condition, and the Atomic Four cranked immediately. The last time I cranked her was before she took the dip, and a mechanic told me that all she needs is to be flushed with Marvel Mystery Oil and it should fire up fine. She always ran smoothly, and oil stayed clean. Steers with a tiller bar, and has auto-pilot for cruising. She has a folding swim ladder off the back, and plenty of fenders to protect her pirate-black paint job.
This has been a very loved and cared for boat, the past to years she has been on the trailer in storage and is not in top condition right now which is reflected in the price. Turn-key boats like this sell for up to $18k and it would be a shame to let her stay in storage any longer. I am newly married, and as you can imagine my time now is allocated to my new love. I'd love to see her in good hands and back on the water where she belongs.
**I will consider trades of all kinds so make me an offer**
Thank you for your time -I'm learning just how valuable it is!
